~ Wednesday Rambles ~

I've missed everyone so much!  I do hope that each of you have had a wonderful and blessed Christmas. We did!  The sad thing is that so many are very ill right now...upper respiratory problems, flu, sinus infections, ear infections, you name it. My daughter and good friends all got sick Christmas evening and it has been horrid for them.

I have been fine, except for my knees. I guess I sound like a broken record but they have hurt soooo bad!  Yesterday, I was in tears most of the day. Called the Dr and could not get in, nor today either. Hopefully, they can work me in tomorrow. We had a rainy weather front move through so it's obvious it really bothered is better but I'm being very careful.

Didn't sleep much at all last night...I remember turning off the TV about 4:30 a.m.  At 8:45 a.m. the maintenance man woke me up. Due to the heavy rains during the night and the slope of the land near my guest bedroom (which I'm making mine) there was water coming in the closet.  :-(  He moved everything off the floor and took the pad up. I then found water in the adjoining bath.  I've used a jillion towels today soaking that up. I wash & dry the towels and then use them again. Not fun!  The carpet company came earlier and used a wet vac. Said they will return in a couple of days to replace all the carpeting and pad in that area.

I still don't have everything in its place and that's getting old!  I'm sure you're sick of hearing/reading about it too.  :-)

There are always situations that are worse...the snowstorms in the northeast & midwest, fires that drive folks from their homes, accidents, etc.  I try to allow myself up to 30 minutes for my pity parties, cry fests, etc., when it becomes overwhelming and then I draw the line and get back to reality!

I'm so looking forward to an organized home, flexible/painless knees and a new year that will bring lots of laughter, love, abundance, joy and happiness.  I send you blessings and love!

~ A jillion boxes, a few meltdowns and peace...

I really haven't had much time to post nor much to share lately but wanted to say "hello" and that I miss everyone so much!  I was going to take pics of all the boxes, however, I cannot find the charger for my camera or the cord to link up with my computer. Of course, they are in a very safe place ~ a place that I felt confident in putting them at the time ~ but have no idea where that would be right now. :-)  The boxes do multiply at night, I'm convinced of that!  I know I'll get through this but it would be so nice to be able to do it the way I'd normally do and be done. My knees have been so bad that some days I can't do much at all. Went to a chiropractor last week and will have PT 2-3 x a week for a bit.  I've had a couple of meltdowns but they didn't last long. I do feel very peaceful here and am so grateful!  I have a beautiful view and the morning sun ~ love it!

I know your homes are beautifully decorated and lots of baking being done ~ hopefully, I will get by sometime this week to take a look!  I continue to remind myself of the reason for the season and that gets me through. Bottom line, all this "stuff" doesn't really matter...we just need to keep Christ in Christmas.

~ December 1st ~

Yes, it's my birthday!  I've had such a wonderful day and evening and I am so grateful. It's been a gorgeous day in Texas too. :-)  Of course, it's World Aids Day and it's great that so many countries participate in Aids awareness. It's also Pay It Forward Day which I love!!  I had the best intentions of posting about this earlier today, however, we can all practice this act of kindness on any given day.

I appreciate all of your wonderful comments the past couple of weeks and I apologize that I haven't responded ~ please forgive me!  I'm in the midst of jillions of boxes ~ I honestly think they multiply overnight. :-)  Seems like such a daunting task but I'm not pushing it and I'm very happy where I am now. This is a HUGE blessing!  I hope to take some time and visit everyone's blogs in the next few days.  I can only imagine all the gorgeous Christmas decorations everyone has! I'm not even going to attempt to put up a tree and will only put out a few Christmasy items...and that's ok. I can enjoy everyone's and not have the work. LOL
I've missed you BIG time!

~ Happy Thanksgiving! ~

I only have a moment as there are tons of boxes waiting for me to open them! :-)  Everything was moved on Monday. I cannot express the relief I felt when I left the old place. Felt as though 10,000 lbs had lifted from my being. I am totally exhausted but happy and I feel comfortable here. It is a very peaceful feeling to me and I'm so grateful!

Just want to wish you and your loved ones a very Happy Thanksgiving! I appreciate each of you and really, really miss checking in on your blogs and communicating. Things will improve daily so don't give up on me, ok? :-) Enjoy this special season of gratitude and share the love!

~ I Miss YOU! ~

It's been such a hectic week but very productive too. I have sooooo much accomplished and feel very good about it. My bedroom and bathroom are not packed yet but that will be done this weekend. Movers are scheduled for Monday morning and I am so excited to be outta here! The AT&T folks are scheduled for Tuesday at the new place so my phone, internet, TV will be operative.

I have really missed my computer time, reading your blogs, responding, etc.  I look forward to taking some "me" time soon ~ spending a morning or longer in my PJ's, have my coffee and just laze around blog land.  :-)

Have a wonder*filled weekend and enjoy each moment!

~ A Must See! ~

This is great!  No musical instruments were used in this Welcome Home at Heathrow

As an aside, I'm knee deep ~ almost neck deep ~ in boxes!  ;-)  I'm not sleeping and have been so on edge so the Dr wants to see me in the morning. I really don't have time to go but I will. I keep thinking..."one more day forward"....and today I've thought "this time next week I'll be outta here!"  I still don't know where the guy is so I'm always on guard walking Forrester or going in and out. That's no way to live.

Thanks a million for all your kind words and good thoughts. I'm so looking forward to being in a safe and quiet space. I should have some decorating to show you!  :-)  There's so much to be grateful for and this Thanksgiving will be extra special.

~ It's been a week....

...since last Thursday's unfortunate incident. I haven't been here at my place until last night. It's after midnight now and I can't sleep. I know I cannot stay here ~ whether the guy is gone or not. He has 30 days to abide by the eviction and has the right to challenge it.  A detective called me and charges were filed. Not sure yet if I will have to appear in Court or not.  I do know that I'm no longer comfortable and have elected to move. I found a lovely place in Bedford today. I seem to always 'return' to Bedford for some strange reason. :-)  I want to be out of here before Dec 1st so have a lot to do.

I so appreciate your support, love and kind words!  It means the world to me and I'm very grateful.  Not sure how much I'll be online....or if I have anything interesting to share....but will try to at least read your blogs and have time to catch up.

Today has been a special day to honor our military!  What did you do?

~ I was assaulted! ~

I'm pretty fragile & scattered right now. I was assaulted yesterday afternoon ~ by a fellow resident here. He's "not right", to say the least....but I had no idea he was dangerous until this happened. Forrester and I were walking toward the mail area which is outside the club house & office. He came out of the club house area & was walking toward us. Of course, Forrester hates most men so he started barking. I keep him on the side of me nearest the wall so he's not in the walkway when we are near other residents. This guy comes over, stretches his arms open wide and then sorta curves them, leans down and makes these horrendous noises & yelling at Forrester. I told him to stop and, with my left arm/hand pushed back against him. He then hit me on the left side ~ arm area. I said, "Do not touch me again. Leave us alone!" He then did that thing with his arms and the noises again at Forrester. I told him to stop it and tried to move forward. He then stood up & started walking away. Said for me to keep that damn dog away 'cause he always barked at him. I went into the office and then collapsed almost. They called 911 and Randy, the security officer here. Randy is with the Ft. Worth Police Dept....lives here & acts as security. The Mgr came over from the other bldg. Long story shorter, police officer took the did the Mgr here...and then got all the info re: the guy. Officer said a detective would call me and charges would be filed & the guy would be jailed. The Mgr was also getting papers ready for eviction and asked Randy if he could come back to accompany the Constable that had arrived to serve the papers re: eviction. Found out a few more things about the guy and do not feel comfortable at all.

My daughter insists that I come over there for the weekend as did my son. I won't be staying here, that's for sure!  I have a lot to process and determine what I will do next.  The thought of another move sends me to another place ~ :-)  (Mel, I shouldn't even mention that, right?)  I did sleep last night, with the assistance of Tylenol PM, both doors blocked & a light on in the entry. Just need to get quiet and listen for guidance. The phones have been ringing off the wall and I'm exhausted. Just want this guy off the property and away from me & Forrester.

Not sure if this makes a lot of sense ~ :-)  I won't be online much for a few days. Thanks in advance for your good thoughts, etc.

~ Wednesday Gratitude ~

I've been at a loss as to what to post lately. I have been very busy and away from home a lot but I forget to take my camera and....I forget to take pics while cooking or baking. I'm not doing any DIY projects, painting or crafting, nor am I shopping much.  I think, "Why would anyone be interested in this or that?" so I just haven't been in the blogging state of mind. Does that happen to you?

I am very grateful though ~ for so much!  This is the month we focus on our blessings although I feel this should be a way of life.  A few items I've listed in my Gratitude Journal ~

. My grandson is doing well after suffering a light concussion while playing football.
. My d-i-l traveled safely to/from a business trip and my son has one upcoming so I will hold positive thoughts for him also.
. I won a gorgeous Witch's Hat from Jacqueline's fantastic giveaway at Purple Chocolat Home!
. The grands LOVED their Halloween cupcakes I made.  Yep, forgot to take pics ~
. My good friend went to Houston last weekend to see one of her son's and I picked her up at the airport on Mon when she returned. We had a great lunch with lots of laughs!
. My daughter & s-i-l had a rough week last far, so good this week.
. The Texas Rangers gave it their best shot at winning the World Series!  It was so exciting for everyone in this area and there is a huge celebration scheduled for them this evening.
. We have true fall weather right now, some rain & 40's & 50's. October was such a beautiful month...wish it could have lasted longer.

Wishing each of you a day, week and month of beautiful blessings and memories to treasure!

If you're not familiar with Kristen's Creations then you must check out her blog and her Etsy shop. This frame is my latest purchase and I love it!  The photo is from her shop...I haven't decided where I'm going to place it yet...when I do, I'll share it's new home with you. :-)  Kristen is preparing for Christmas early as she has quite a busy schedule so stop by and check out the new things!

~ The Simple Woman's Handbook ~

I saw this at Melanie's and thought I'd join in too.  I think it's fun to read random thoughts from other bloggers and it's a great way to get to know others.

Outside my window...
I see bright, sunshiny skies with that autumn know, how the light is just different?

I am thinking...
That I am sooooo hungry and wondering what I'm going to have for lunch.

I am thankful for...
My family and friends.  My grandson suffered a slight concussion last week from a football game but it appears that he is fine. Wow, scary stuff for his parents and "Mimi" !  :)

From the kitchen...
I hear the dishwasher running. Aren't we lucky to have them?

I am wearing...
Soft clothes today ~ yoga pants & a t-shirt ~ which are so comfy when I'm not in PJ's.

I am creating...
Halloween treats for the grands.

I am going...
To see the IRS folks tomorrow ~ yikes!  Somehow, they have my info "different" than reported for 2008 & 2009.  Wish me luck!

I am reading...
A trashy romance novel. :-)  Seriously, it's not that trashy but it's a mental escape for me.

I am hoping...
The Rangers win in the World Series!   This is SO exciting for us here in Texas ~

I am hearing...
The washer and dryer along with the dishwasher.

Around the house...
Candles are burning and smell so good!

One of my favorite things...
Chocolate pie.  Can you tell I'm hungry?

A few plans for the rest of the week:
IRS appointment, mammogram, hair cut, invitation to dinner and another to play cards.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

Please drop by The Simple Woman's Daybook and join in or just read other's responses.

~ Blue Cheese Ricotta Dip ~

1 15-ounce container ricotta cheese
8 ounces blue cheese,  crumbled (2 cups)
2 T. apple cider (can use milk)
Freshly ground black pepper
Snipped fresh chives or your favorite herb

Green and/or red apple slices
Breadsticks, crackers, pita chips ~ your choice!

Allow ricotta and blue cheese to stand at room temperature for 1 hour. In a medium bowl stir together the cheeses, mashing with a fork until well combined. Stir in the apple cider. Add pepper to taste. Spoon into a serving bowl. Sprinkle with chives or garnish as desired.  You can form the mixture into the desired shape that you prefer. It's fun to try for a pumpkin this time of year!  I use a cake pan that I bought when I was working at Williams-Sonoma for awhile.
I'm joining "Designs by Gollum"  for Foodie Friday.

~ What You Think Of Me ~

Today I've encountered a couple of friends, a lady in my Bible Study class and an acquaintance that are experiencing less than positive comments being made about them. Sometimes this happens to all of us I think...and I believe it's up to us to determine how we handle our attitude reflects our thoughts and feelings.  I realize I'm older but it's just not worth paying attention to IMHO, nor spending valuable time fretting over "stuff" like this. We cannot control other's words or actions ~ the only thing we can control is our attitude about it. And really, those folks need prayer. I don't mean to sound preachy at all ~ I'm not ever like that.  It just hurts to see good people being hurt unnecessarily.  Does that make sense?  :-)

Anyway, if you haven't read this book, I highly recommned it!  "What You Think of Me is None of My Business" by Terry Cole-Whittaker

Perhaps I shouldn't even be posting this here but my heart hurts when others hurt.

Ok, I will try to post some photos tomorrow of a little fall/Halloween decorating.  The weather has been beautiful here, however a bit warm in the afternoons a couple of days. Tomorrow we have a possibility of rain and temps in the 70's for a high.  See me jumping around in joy?  :-)

Back to your regularly scheduled programming..........................

~ Sunday Rambles ~

I hope that each of you are enjoying a beautiful fall weekend! The temps have been a bit warm here, however, the mornings and evenings are cool and sooooo enjoyable. Last Thursday the high was 74 and just perfect!  It's been a busy week and not sure where the time has gone. I have...
. been cleaning out closets and sorting clothes...putting summer things away and going through both summer and fall to see what to keep and what to donate.
. done a bit more fall decorating.
. had my  fur baby groomed, along with my daughter's.
. had a fun dinner and dancing outing with her and friends on Friday night. So fun!
. had lunch with a good friend.
. also done all the "usual stuff" like laundry, cleaning, etc.  Not really that fun ~ :-)

So....what about you?  I feel sure you have been creating, decorating, cooking, baking, painting, whatever.  Tell me about it!

~ Just for Fun ~

I am joining Susan at Hometown Girl for this great set of questions. They are from inside the Actor's Studio on Bravo. Stop by her beautiful blog to see her answers as well as others that are particpating.

What is your favorite word?  Love

What is your least favorite word?  Hate

What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? Creatively, my daughter and a couple of friends...they come up with the most amazing ideas!  Spiritually, Bible Study and nature. Emotionally, a really great time with my family and/or friends.

What turns you off?  Any form of abuse ~

What sound or noise do you love?  Laughter ~

What sound or noise do you hate?  Oh, so many!  I am very sensitive to noise.

What is your favorite thing to say when you get mad?  SOB!  Sorry, but that's the truth.   :-(   Just to clarify, it takes a LOT to make me angry.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?  Chef

What profession would you not like to do? Anything medical, I don't have the stomach for it.

If Heaven exists (I believe that it does), what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?   I've been waiting for you!  Now...let's go see your family.

~ What Will You Be Doing for 10/10/10 ? ~

I am joining a friend in this process. I will be spending 10 minutes at least 4 times during the day/evening hours engaged in a forgiveness/gratitude meditation.

Forgive 10 people (or 10 situations) then  List 10 things I am grateful for.

List  and
Read Out Loud for 10 minutes.
Just to make it specific... I will begin at 10 minutes after each hour (every 4 hrs) from the time I wake up until the time I retire.
If you want to join me, chime in! :-)

♥ Even if you only join in once during the day it would be awesome!  ♥
Brightest Blessings!

Forgiveness isn't:

Letting the offender repeat the behaviors,

Forgetting (we will is what we do with the memory that will determine if it is healthy for us or not).

Forgiveness is:

Letting go and turning over the problem(s) to God.

Allowing ourselves to be free from the toxicity of resentment.
Lists of the things we feel resentful about (or situations, people etc) will be LET GO and we will replace these newly emptied spaces in our hearts with Lists of things we are Grateful for.

Share your thoughts, blog about it, comment here, let me know what you will be doing for 10/10/10.

Is it just like any other day?

Could be.  Perhaps this is an activity we can extend into each new day beyond 10/10/10 ~
Perhaps at 10 am and 10 pm for 10 minutes twice a day?

~ An Award, An Update and A Prayer Request ~

I am so excited!  I received this lovely Blog Award from Suzanne over at You Made That. If you're not familiar with her blog, by all means please check it out!  She is an amazing cook and very talented crafter too.  I drool over her recipes and gain about 5 lbs when I view those lusicous dishes.  It's customary to share this award with 15 others and there are so many blogs I would love to honor, however, a great many of them are award and tag free.  I am going to share with the following though, in no particular order:

Some of these may be award/tag free  ~ I haven't thoroughly checked all of them.  Most I'm very aware of.  IF you are mentioned and do not accept awards, then you can be Honorary!  :-)

~ * ~
I cannot tell you how much better I've felt today!  This week has been such a drag....dizzy, nauseous, meds, rest, tons of water but hey, it's working!  I've been sort of busy today trying to get my house in order and decorating a bit.  Perhaps photos later!

~ * ~
In case you are unaware, precious Heidi at Heart and Home lost her father Saturday, 25th. She will be away for awhile. If you could please remember her and her family in prayer I know it would be so appreciated!

~ Vertigo is NOT fun! ~

Yes, it hit quite suddenly Saturday afternoon when I was trying to get ready to go out to dinner. I haven't been doing much since then which is such a waste of time IMHO.  Went to the Dr yesterday afternoon and he said it was inner ear/sinus problems...which I knew. :-)  Gave me a shot as well as a nasal spray to try. I also picked up some Anti-Vert and Mucinex. What I did have was not working so well ~ let's hope this does the trick!  He also said to drink lots of fluids and rest so that's what I'm doing.  We have such gorgeous weather this week ~ in the 50's at night and low 80's during the day. When I can, I take Forrester out for lovely walks and just breathe in the cooler air and observe the tinges of fall ~ love it!  Ok, back to rest, books & movies.  Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

~ Versatile Blogger Award ~

Mz Wonderful,  Jane at Janie's Porch,  passed on The Versatile Blogger award to me. I am so honored!  I really enjoy blogging and meeting new friends. I'm excited that she's a fellow Texan and really doesn't live that far away. Thank you, Jane, for thinking about me! Please stop by her blog...she is an incredible woman who you will enjoy meeting and getting to know better.

A "Versatile Blogger" brings everything to the table - a little of this and a little of that." Now, here are the rules for the Versatile Blogger Award:

Thank & link back to the person who gave you the award (Thank you, Jane!)

Share 7 things about yourself ~

Pass the award on to (up to) 15 other bloggers who you have recently discovered and think are fabulous. Contact the bloggers you chose and let them know about the award.
I feel like I've shared a bit more than you prolly want to know between the GTKY's, ramblings and a few other postings. ;-)  Here goes......

1. I think Fall has finally arrived!  Our temps have been cooler and supposed to be in the 50's the next couple of mornings...and 80 during the day.  Yay!!
2. I have vertigo right now so won't be online a lot, although I've done better today. Allergies usually cause this for me and let me tell you, it is NOT fun!
3. Just can't seem to get my nails to grow and I really dislike the way my hands look without pretty nails. I've been taking Prenatal vitamins (yes, a "Mimi" taking them!), Biotin, Calcium and using Nailtiques.  Any other advice?
4. I'm going to be helping a friend update a house that has been stuck in the 70's.  Can't wait to shop and see what develops.  Of course, it's not my money so it will be really fun!  :-)  Choosing paint colors has been on my mind all week-end.
5. Fell in LOVE with so many things at Pier 1 on a recent visit. Tons of great fall/Halloween things to wish for. I did buy a couple of things and my wish list is long.
6. Love strong coffee but have to have my French Vanilla creamer!  Hate the fat free or sugar free versions ~
7. The Cowboys finally, finally won a game today!  Hopefully, they are figuring out what they're supposed to do out on the field.  The pre-season and first 2 games have been more than embarrassing.

So many blogs are award free so I will not be passing this award on like I'd prefer to. You are so welcome to participate if you'd like though. Take the award, share 7 things about yourself and please let me know if you do!

xoxo from your dizzy friend

~ Eight Cubed ~

I was tagged by my friend, Candace, to play this game so please find her questions & my answers below. What is Eight Cubed, you ask? Eight cubed is where Eight people get to answer Eight questions and then tag Eight of their friends with Eight questions of their own. Get it? Got it! Good!

1. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up and are you living that dream?
You know, I don't remember wanting to "be" anything or anyone special.  How sad is that?  I have lived a beautiful dream of having kids though ~ a son and a daughter ~ and also 2 "perfect" grandchildren.  I had a great 30 year career with a major airline with wonderful opportunities. I have incredibly wonderful friends and I am so fortunate to still have my health!

2. Do you have a Bucket List? If so, what is the one thing on that list left to fulfill that means the most to you?
I do have a Bucket List!  I've been very fortunate to have accomplished many of the items on the list. I think one thing would be to have a home in the mountains to get out of this ding dang heat!

3. What is the best thing you ever ate?
Anything my mother and my favorite aunt cooked!  My mother always made me an Italian Cream Cake for my birthdays and a special tin of Divinity at Christmas. Those meant the world to me!

4. What is your most memorable birthday?
I think being in NYC ~ one of my favorite cities in the world!  My birthday is Dec 1st so Rockefeller Center was all Christmasy, the tree was spectacular, ice skaters were having a blast, the stores were "wrapped" like presents, lunch at The Tavern on the Green was more than delightful and the Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall was totally incredible!  The Rockettes were to die for ~ and even though I've seen them elsewhere, including this area, it's just not the same. That was one of my favorite trips to NYC as well as a very memorable birthday!

5. Who was your best friend when you were a child and are you still friends?
Her name was Margie. She did some things that ruined our friendship and broke my heart. Unfortunately, she passed away several years ago after a very lengthy bout with cancer. Very sad!

6. What was the best piece of advice your Mother ever gave you?
This is difficult to answer as she did not offer advice really...she "dictated" orders. My grandmother was my favorite. She taught me the Lord's Prayer as a very young girl and always told me that to pray "Thy will be done" was the most difficult part and really mean it.  So true!

7. If you had a child today, what would you name him/her?
Hmmmm, I think I would name a girl Sara or Madison (the latter is my granddaughter's middle name). A boy?  Forrest Morgan after my grandfather.  I was not able to do that when my son was born.

8. Tell me about one of your favorite family holiday traditions - any holiday you choose.
Christmas Eve!  My mother always had our gathering/celebration on Christmas Eve as we seemed to all have other places to go on Christmas Day. She and I took turns having it and now my daughter and I do. I spend the night at my daughter's or go there early Christmas morning for stockings and breakfast. My son & his famly live next door and we watch the grandkids open their gifts, have coffee and cinnamon rolls that I make each year.  They all insist upon that!  ;-)

I'm not going to name Eight people because I was told to...a bit of a rebel here don't 'cha think?  I'm just trying to be a good girl here and not put anyone on the spot! :-) I'd love for you to play along though. Please feel free to do so...and please let me know so that I make sure to stop by and see your answers. I am interested in hearing from each and every one of you! If you would rather answer in the comment section than do a blog post, by all means, go right ahead!

My 8 questions are:
1.  What is your favorite time of the year and why?
2.  Tell me what your most special dream for the future is.
3.  Do you prefer TP (toilet paper) over or under?
4.  Would you prefer to cook or make reservations?
5.  I'd love to know your most memorable holiday ever!
6.  What is your favorite item of clothing?
7.  Coffee or tea?
8.  If I came to visit, what would we do?

I really, really, really hope that someone will play along!  ;-)  Would ya, huh? Pretty please???

~ Rustic Pear Tart ~

Rustic Pear Tart

I want to preface this by saying that I made a sugar-free version of this for a friend so you will NOT see the larger crust that almost envelopes the tart OR the coarse sugar OR the topping!  I hope that you will make your own version ~ it really is delish!  My preference is the sugar-free version....honestly!  ;-)

Prep: 25 min. Bake: 45 min. + cooling
1-1/3 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons sugar  (I used Splenda & about 2 T.)
1/4 teaspoon salt
7 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
2 to 3 tablespoons cold water
3/4 cup sugar  (Splenda again!)
1/4 cup slivered almonds, toasted
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons dried grated lemon peel
1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 medium ripe pears, peeled and sliced
1 tablespoon butter

1 egg white
1 teaspoon water
1 tablespoon coarse sugar

GLAZE (optional):
1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup slivered almonds, toasted
In a small bowl, combine the flour, sugar and salt; cut in butter until crumbly. Gradually add water, tossing with a fork until dough forms a ball. Roll out to a 14-in. circle. Transfer pastry to a 14-in. pizza pan.

In a large bowl, combine the sugar, almonds, flour, lemon peel and cinnamon. Add pears; toss to coat. Spoon over the pastry to within 2 in. of edges; dot with butter. Fold edges of pastry over pears.

For topping, beat egg white and water. Brush over pastry; sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake at 375° for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.

For glaze, combine the confectioners' sugar, milk and vanilla. Pour over warm tart. Sprinkle with almonds. Cool on a wire rack. Store in the refrigerator. Yield: 10 servings

~ Wednesday Gratitude ~

I've missed joining Heidi for Wednesday Gratitude.  I'm glad I'm home this week and remembered to join in!  Stop by her beautiful blog and participate....or just visit those that have joined in.
“You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you.”
~ Sarah Ban Breathnach

Years ago when Sarah appeared often on the Oprah show, she had just written the book "Simple Abundance". I LOVE the book and I always enjoyed her sharing on the show. She has such a kind countenance and a very loving presence.  I cannot tell you how many times I've read the book...or just read certain passages.  She suggested keeping a Gratitude Journal and listing a minimum of 5 things each day that you were grateful for. When I began my Gratitude journal I was still working and had very long and stressful days. Sarah's words would remind me to be grateful...and some nights I just listed the bed, the fact that I made it through the day, I had a safe commute to & from work, etc.  As I practiced, my lists grew longer and my life changed.  :-)  I promise that happens!
I just found this website and wanted to share it with you just in case you were unaware. Crystal over at Good List Daily has a wonderful site and lots of ways to participate. She's an incredible host and I highly recommend that you check it out!
We all have so much to appreciate and it really helps me to stop, think, write it down and offer a prayer of thanksgiving.  I hope you might find it encouraging too!

~ I'm baacckkkkk! ~

Good Monday morning!  I spent last week house/dog sitting while my daughter & her husband were on vacation. Of course, I had my dog there too. They are not that far from me, actually in the area where I used to live, and I so enjoyed myself!  I had lunch and dinner with friends, went shopping, visited my son & his family and just generally hung out.  I really felt like I was on vacation too ~ no "have to's", etc.  ;-)  Now it's back to reality...and getting things in order here. I have some fall decorating to do along with the day-to-day boring stuff.  You know what that means don't you?  Laundry, cleaning, etc.

I will also be trying to catch up with everyone ~ read your blogs, comment, etc.  Hope you are well and have a blessed week!  Oh yes, it's still too warm here ~ remains in the 90's. Boo!

. Surrender the "shoulds"
. Listen to music you love
. Watch movies that make you happy
. Dance
. Make a fort with the kids
. Leave love notes for your spouse, kids, family, friends
. Listen....really listen
. Buy yourself flowers
. Love some more!

Feel free to add to the list ~

~ Random Thoughts ~

. We have had about 8" of rain just TODAY due to Hermine that struck the Texas Gulf coast. It rained more than buckets most of yesterday too. My brother lives about 40 miles south of me and it rained a bit more than 9" there. So much flooding in many areas...very sad to see apts, homes and vehicles just destroyed. Everything is "bigger" in Texas but this is a bit much!

. I slept like a baby last least one that sleeps predominantly all night. :-)  First time in almost a week and I just cannot tell you how refreshing it was!

. Had to go for my annual physical yesterday too.  You know, one of those where the stirrups are involved and you are assured that you just need to relax.  Yuck!  I did get a flu shot though and no reaction at all...and that's a very good thing.

. I bought a beautiful shade of turquoise paint to re-do a book case. Couldn't find the glaze I wanted to will have to go back for that.  The only problem is, now I'm questioning if I really want the turquoise or another color.  *head is spinning*

. Do you dislike the word verifications that are on some blogs?  I don't want to offend anyone but I so wish they were not used.  Sometimes I almost give up leaving a comment as the ding dang words are so crazy and I guess I don't 'see' them as well as most folks do.

. I have absolutely no energy or enthusiasm about things right now and I dislike that too!  Dr thinks it is probably my thyroid so guess we will find out via the bloodwork that I have to go back for. Of course, one has to fast for that don't they?  ;-)

. My nails just will not grow.  Any suggestions?  I so want pretty hands and nails without the fake ones.

. Went to The Flying Fish on Sunday with friends, my daughter & son-in-love. Had the BEST catfish ever!  Love,  love, love it!

. I did find 2 new candles that I love with fall fragrances at B&BW.  One is Spiced Cider and the other is Creamy Nutmeg. Hmmmmm, smells like fall here!

. I am so sad about this so called minister in FL that plans to burn the Koran/Quran's on 9/11.  Our military personnel are already in harm's way 24/7...this will endanger their lives even more and who knows what else it will stir up. I totally believe in Freedom of Speech, however, this action is just so dangerous to so many.

. I can only imagine how boring this post is to you.  :-)  I so hope that you will return another day and find more interesting subjects.

~ Rules for Living ~

Happy Saturday!  It's a beautiful day here ~ low 60's this morning and that makes me very happy!  Just found this in my files and thought I'd share it with you.
Remember that other people were not put on this earth to make you happy. The only person who can make you happy is you.

Don't blame everybody except the right body for your problems. Take responsibility for your life.

If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten.

When choosing someone with whom to spend the rest of your life, don't marry someone you can live with -- marry someone you cannot live without.

If you are fortunate enough to find love, love that person with all your heart. He or she won't be around forever, and neither will you. Life can change in an instant.

Before saying something, ask yourself these three things: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary to say? If the answer is not "yes" to all three, don't say it.

Daily, treat each of your friends and loved ones as though he/she has only 24 hours to live.

Don't let minor disagreements turn into major blowouts. Don't leave anything unresolved for too long. Never, ever take anyone for granted. Life is not static, and we are not immortal.

Respect the opinions of others, even if you don't agree with them. The world is big enough for all of us.

Don't sweat the small stuff! Don't let little things upset you. Save your energy for the big things. If someone's health, life, or livelihood isn't in jeopardy, chill out!

Above all, keep a sense of humor. Hone it daily. Laugh often, especially when the joke is on you. Appreciate life's funny side!

Please remember the golden rule -- treat others as you would have them treat you. None of us is perfect. We all have faults, they're just different from one another's. We all lose our patience with others from time to time, even our tempers. That's a normal part of life. It's not the end of the world if you do, so long as you make reparations afterward.

Don't ever be afraid of admitting you made a mistake. One cannot stumble unless one is moving. Mistakes are part of the learning process called life.

~When you say "I'm sorry," look the person in the eye.
~ If you embarrass or hurt someone in front of others, apologize to that person in front of others.
~When you say "I love you," mean it.
~After you use it, put it back where it came from.
~If you borrow it, return it in the same condition in which you got it.
~If you break it, repair or replace it.
~If you spill it, clean it up.

LIFE IS PRECIOUS. Don't ever take it for granted!

~ Wednesday Gratitude ~

I'm joining Heidi at Heart and Home for Gratitude Wednesday. Stop by her beautiful blog and join in!
I have declared Sept 1st as Fall!!  Doesn't matter that it really isn't yet...very warm here, still in the 90's, however, it is supposed to be a bit cooler this week-end so we shall see.  I am just so sick of summer and the Texas heat that I cannot stand it.  I put my fall wreath on the door today as well as a new door mat.  I'm so grateful for the change in temps that are coming. Just a few pics of some of my favorite things about Fall ~

I'm grateful that we have a change of seasons. As much as I love the beach, I could not live where it was warm all the time. I'm grateful for the ability to be outside more, to take long walks and breathe in the cool, crisp mornings.  I'm grateful for the many scents that we can enjoy ~ spices, pumpkins, apples, cinnamon, pinion wood burning in fireplaces or fire pits. I love fall clothes, PJ's, socks, jeans & t-shirts.  Simmering pots of soup, baking bread, pies, hot apple cider and strong coffee. Candles that cast a warm and cozy glow, beautiful pillows and throws scattered about and magazines that showcase the season.

Tell me what you're grateful for!

~ Getting To Know You ~

It's that time ~ time for GTKY.  Keely has enlisted the help of her bro-in-law for this week's questions. Stop by and check out her blog as well as the others that have joined.
The Q's.

 2. Love your body or plastic surgery?
If I had millions, yes ~ I would go for a few tucks.

3. What about your favorite blog(s) continues to drive you back?
The fact that the person is "real" ~ no pretentions.

4. What percent of your blog is BS just to make your life seem more interesting than it really is?
Nada ~

5. If you had to give up one type of meat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I don't eat red meat now so that would remain the same.

6. How often to you eat out?
2-3 times a week ~

7. Skinny jeans or boot cut jeans?
In between style ~

8. If you caught your spouse cheating would you forgive, divorce, or plan your kill?

~ Sugar Free Strawberry Pie ~

This is something I just made up and it's easy peasy!  I had a recipe for a fresh strawberry pie however, it was more involved.  I was in a hurry the first time I tried this and didn't want to go to a lot of trouble so thought I'd just wing it.  Everyone seems to love them and I've been taking 2 nearly every Friday night when a group of friends get together to play cards.  ;-) I keep asking them if they want something else and their response is, "No, make them until the strawberries are out of the market."
2 16oz. containers fresh strawberries
1 large box sugar free strawberry jello
2 low fat graham cracker crusts (or your choice)
1 8 oz. container sugar free Cool Whip
Splenda or sweetener of your choice for the berries

I wash & hull the strawberries & then slice them in halves/quarters.
I use a bit of Splenda (or you can use regular sugar) & sprinkle over them, cover and refrigerate. Sometimes I do this the night before....sometimes a few hours prior to finishing the pie.  Mix the jello with 2 cups boiling water and stir until completely dissolved. Add 1- 1/2 cups cold water and mix thoroughly. (You're going to have some juice from the berries.)  Allow this jello mixture to cool completely. Add the strawberries, including the juice.  Refrigerate for about an hour or until it is pretty well thickened.  You might stir it occasionally to keep the strawberries mixed. Once it is really thick, divide mixture between the 2 pie shells.  Refrigerate until set.  Top with the Cool Whip or use real whipped cream, if you so desire.  Chill thoroughly prior to serving.  I like to slice a whole strawberry into a "fan" and place on top of the pie...forgot and used them all this time!  ;-)  You can decorate any way you choose of course.

This is the jello/strawberry mixture thickened.
Garnish any way you choose!

Bon Appetit!
I'm linking this with Foodie Friday. Please stop by and see all of the other incredible recipes!

~ Thank you, Candace! ~

Candace  is a new friend and an "almost" neighbor as she resides in Louisiana, Texas' neighbor on the East. This award means so much to me and I appreciate her thoughtfulness. I hope you will stop by her blog and read her warm and inviting posts!

This Award also comes with rules. :-)  I am supposed to tell you 7 things about myself.  Hmmm....
~ I LOVE to sleep in. After having an alarm(s) forever, this is a wonderful gift of retirement.
~ I like to have my coffee right away ~ strong and with creamer, no sugar.
~ Fall feels like the beginning of a "new year" to me. Perhaps that is an old connection from    school days, who knows?  I am counting down the days now until we can really declare fall is   here and cooler temps can be enjoyed! On Sept 1st, my fall decor is out ~ ;-)
~ I am finding that "less is more" in my house (apt) now and am really clearing out, donating,   giving away and it feels so good!
~ I am really claustrophobic. It is difficult for me to be in a small space or a room with a lot of   people.  If I am, I need to be near a door...a way out, so to speak.
~ I love, love seafood ~ any kind really. I could eat some type daily and never tire of it.
~ Laughter is so important in my life!  I think that a great sense of humor is imperative.

I'd love to pass this award along, however, so many blogs are award free.  I'm going to ask that if you would like, please take this award, share 7 things about yourself on your blog and then pass it on! Thank you again, Candace!  I feel so blessed ~ <3

I'm joining Keely again today for GTKY.  Stop by her blog and join in...and visit the other peeps that are playing.
The Q's.
1. If you could host a Reality TV show, which one would it be?
I would host a "Real Texas Housewives" show ~ no crazies need apply. ;-)

2. Do you put your seatbelt on before or after you start the car?
I've never thought about this...everything's so automatic. It's either before or while I'm waiting for the car to 'warm up' a bit.  My step-dad always told me to let the motor run a bit before moving the car.

3. Shave or hair removal cream?
Both ~

4. What's your favorite feature in a house?
A LARGE, functional, beautiful, fully appointed kitchen!

5. What is your favorite "Fall" scent?
Does it matter? ;-)  LOVE them all...apples, cinnamon, cinn-vanilla, spicy scents!

6. What tv show are you looking forward to seeing the most this Fall??
I haven't really thought about it...trying to avoid a lot of TV.

7. Personal Shopper or Personal Chef?
I'll take the Chef please ~

8. What is the first word that comes to mind when you think of "Fall"?
Cooler temps, being outside, pumpkins, changing leaves, all the incredible scents, soup, baking bread, jeans, Halloween, making wreaths...uh, I guess that's more than "first" word huh?

~ Meet Me on Monday ~

Good Monday morning!  I'm joining  "Java" today for a Blog hop.  Stop by her blog and join in.

1. What is your favorite dessert?
So's difficult to choose.  I think I would choose pie ~ most any kind!

 2. What do you wear to bed?
Something silky/nylon stuff...weird, I know but I just can't stand those fabrics in sleepwear. I like cute PJ's, especially during the winter.  I also like boxer shorts and t's in hotter temps.

 3. Do you get regular manicures/pedicures?
I do!  I don't pay a ton of $$$....sometimes my sister-in-love does them for me, which is a blessing. I feel like this is something that I owe to myself.  ;-)

4. Did you play any sports in high school?
Nope, I've never been athletic....or coordinated.

 5. Do you have an iPod?
Don't fall out here....but no, I don't.  Can you even imagine?   ;-)
