~ What You Think Of Me ~

Today I've encountered a couple of friends, a lady in my Bible Study class and an acquaintance that are experiencing less than positive comments being made about them. Sometimes this happens to all of us I think...and I believe it's up to us to determine how we handle it...how our attitude reflects our thoughts and feelings.  I realize I'm older but it's just not worth paying attention to IMHO, nor spending valuable time fretting over "stuff" like this. We cannot control other's words or actions ~ the only thing we can control is our attitude about it. And really, those folks need prayer. I don't mean to sound preachy at all ~ I'm not ever like that.  It just hurts to see good people being hurt unnecessarily.  Does that make sense?  :-)

Anyway, if you haven't read this book, I highly recommned it!  "What You Think of Me is None of My Business" by Terry Cole-Whittaker

Perhaps I shouldn't even be posting this here but my heart hurts when others hurt.

Ok, I will try to post some photos tomorrow of a little fall/Halloween decorating.  The weather has been beautiful here, however a bit warm in the afternoons a couple of days. Tomorrow we have a possibility of rain and temps in the 70's for a high.  See me jumping around in joy?  :-)

Back to your regularly scheduled programming..........................

  1. You have a kind heart is why you are concerned about your friends and the way they are handling this matter.
People can be cruel and like you now that I am older I handle things so differently than when I was young.
Great of you to care enough to write about it.
    Miss my visits over here.

  2. You have a tender heart, Pat, and that is why you care. I thank God for people like you every day...wish there were more out there. You have such a positive attitude about it, though, and now my interest is piqued by this book! Thanks for the tip!

  3. I have experienced that when people are negative about another it is because they themselves are going through a hard time and dont know how to ask for help. You have such a tender heart and your friends are lucky to have you

  4. I think that you are a genuinely good spirited and kind hearted person Pat:)
I can understand why you feel bad for your friends, they are lucky to have you for their friend! I feel lucky to have you as a friend too!
I also like that old saying... If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all!

Hey I'm glad you're having some nice Fall weather there! It was a bit warm here(in the 90's)last week while Mom was here visiting but has cooled back down now!

    Love and hugs, Sherri:)

P.S. Thanks for the especially sweet comment you left me on my last post! You made me smile extra big:D

  5. I am glad you posted this...I need this positive reinforcement today...the same thing is happening to me...however, I am choosing to ignore it, however, hard not to internalize the feeling....it is disappointing. A lot of it boils down to jealousies for whatever rhyme or reason, big or small...it rears it's ugly head. Thanks:)

  6. Thanks for keeping a smile on my face. I can see you jumping for joy!

  7. I think we get to that point with age, don't you? I used to care so much more what people thought. I used to never say "no" and I would get myself into things I didn't really want to do. Now, I say "no" often. I still worry once in a while that I may have been too honest in my opinion etc., yet I'm not very good at keeping my mouth shut when I feel strongly about something.

I tend to tell my kids that people who say or do cruel things are unhappy people and it is much more about them than about the people they are mean to.

  8. Okay you sweet Pat. I get it, I understand it, I know you are right and still, sometimes it's just really difficult to let it go, especially when it hits you in the stomach. But, a little deep yoga breathing is helping, and your kind and thoughtful comments and emails, some praying (even though I'm not really a praying type, more the type who just is talking to the heavens all the time, if you know what I mean) and I know I will get through what needs to be gotten through.
Have you considered changing your blog title to "Tender/Gentle/Sweet-Heart"?
I think that's a better description of you my dear friend.
PS one more thing: Sometimes people are just plain mean and stupid, and there are no good excuses for their behaviour. I'm just saying...

  9. What a thoughtful and encouraging post. You're such a wonderful person ... you're friends are fortunate to have your inspiring words of wisdom! And, speaking of kind words ... thank you for your sweet note about my dining room re-do! I really appreciate it. Take care, *Becca*

  10. I think you're a dear friend and I'm so happy to have "met" you! Thank you for caring for your friends and for caring about me. Your sweet emails bless my heart. I love the title of that book. I need to add that to my list of books to look up. Hope it wasn't too warm for you today!

  11. I agree with you. It is a waste to fret about what others think. I don't worry with that and I think that it has served me well so far:)

It makes my Heart happy to hear from you! Thank you so much for taking the time to say hello. I want to respond to each comment, however, if you are a "no reply blogger" I can't. Would love to have an email address to contact you!
