~ Lamp Base Re-do ~

Please be gentle with this reveal! :)  It's been so long since I've done something half way creative. I haven't had any desire to do anything since we lost Abby. Now I remember how much I love to paint...whatever I can find. It's like therapy for me ~ same as baking or cooking. It's just been so hot here I haven't had the desire to have the oven on at all. Anyway, here goes:

I thought I had taken a photo of the "before" but can't find it. This old lamp base needed a fresh paint job and some pizazz to her. I love color and plan to add a lot of it to the bedroom as well as elsewhere.

Pay no attention to the stuff in the surrounding area of my paint station ~

I've loved this shade of green for a long, long time. If you haven't visited my friend Jennifer's blog ~ Dimples and Tangles ~ you simply must!

Trying to get the full view ~

I added some bling to it in the form of gold ~ top, lower section and almost on the bottom.  The photo below is shown as it's drying from the clear gloss finish I had
just sprayed on.

And....drum roll, she is!  I haven't decided what I'm going to do with the shade. If you have suggestions, I'm all ears.

The night stand has just been painted in metallic gold. That was a challenge! I will show it after I get new handles for it. The old ones just won't cut it. This is not staged at all. Just wanted a quick photo to show you.

Can you see the Navy wall in the background?  I LOVE IT!!!  I had them paint an accent wall in my bedroom prior to moving in. I am so happy with it! I made that decision early on in the process of leasing. I'd love to have a wall painted in the living area but they won't allow contractors in once a resident has moved in....liability and all that jazz. I just didn't have the mental capacity to make additional decisions prior to moving. I will continue to consider it and we'll see what happens!

I've done a couple of other things too ~ it's helping me to focus on something positive ~ and I will show them soon.  Thank you so very much for stopping by!!

I'm joining ~

  1. Your lamp is just beautiful, I love the will add that pop of color to any room, great job...Phyllis

  2. Beautiful lamp for a lovely cheerful pop of color! Take care my friend! xo

  3. Love it! I have seen so many lamps at the thrift shops that just get passed by because they are so dated. Who knew that they could end up looking like yours...great job!!

  4. Lamp turned out great, Pat. Love the shade of green. Maybe you could paint the shade with chalk paint? xo

  5. I love that color! I just changed 2 lampshades by using spray adhesive (I love that stuff and can't understand why I haven't heard of more diy'ers using it.) and my favorite fabric. I just measure approximately by rolling the fabric around. Then trim when I am done. I leave a little at top and bottom to fold around edges. Just be sure to spray the whole fabric piece to edge.

  6. I'm so happy for your painting therapy, dear friend. You deserve to find something that soothes your soul. Your lamp turned out so bright and pretty and I love your navy accent wall. xo

  7. Fun color!! I think it turned out great! :)

  8. Well, you know I love this lamp, and your wall, too! Getting busy always helps with grief, and sometimes the creativity just pours out when you think the well is dry. I will be looking to see what you come up with next. Maybe it will be a wall?

  17. dear pat,

i first clicked over to thank you for your sweet comment about my chalkboard wall and when i scrolled down your posts i saw the story about your precious granddaughter. words cannot express how my heart hurts for you and while some time has passed i know you must still feel the loss and pain of her passing. i cannot even imagine how you must feel. i will pray for you and your family to feel the peace that only our heavenly father can bring in times like this.

i don't know how i missed "following" your blog but i'm your newest follower and look forward to keeping up with you!

  19. I'm glad to see your mojo is slowly coming back. I think the "fake it until you make it" rule applies right now. You just go through the motions and sometimes you actually enjoy yourself again. I love that color with the navy, I have never painted a lamp...until blogging, it never even crossed my mind it could be done!
