~ September Morn ~

This is one of my "loves" and I don't care if you tell! :)  He's been a favorite for as long as I can remember and the only performer that I've stood in line for tickets...beginning at 3 a.m.  My kids still tease me about cleaning house to the tune of "Sweet Caroline" a few others. :)

Neil Diamond

I consider September 1st as a beginning of fall ~ regardless of the temps around here!  My favorite season and a prelude to October, my favorite month. Cooler temps, crisp mornings, the scents of apples, cinnamon and other spices. Pumpkins galore, changing leaves, baked breads, soups and stews, wonderful candles, jackets, boots, funky socks and cozy throws.

So...please take a few moments and listen to my guy!

~ Friends vs Texas Friends ~

I know I complain about the Texas summer heat but hey, there's some good stuff too!  ;-)

FRIENDS: Never ask for food.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Always bring the food.

FRIENDS: Will say 'hello'.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Will give you a big hug and a kiss.

FRIENDS: Call your parents Mr. And Mrs.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Call your parents Mom and Dad.

FRIENDS: Have never seen you cry.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Cry with you.

FRIENDS: Will eat at your dinner table and leave.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Will spend hours there, talking, laughing, playing dominoes or cards and just being together.

FRIENDS: Know a few things about you.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Could write a book with direct quotes from you.

FRIENDS: Will leave you behind if that's what the crowd is doing.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Will kick the whole crowds' back-ends that left you.

FRIENDS: Would knock on your door.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Walk right in and say, 'I'm home!'.

FRIENDS: will visit you in the hospital when you're sick.
TEXAS FRIENDS: will cut your grass and clean your house then come spend the night with you in the hospital and cook for you when you come home.

FRIENDS: have you on speed dial.
TEXAS FRIENDS: have your number memorized.

FRIENDS: Are for a while.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Are for life.

FRIENDS: Might ignore this.
TEXAS FRIENDS: Will share this with all their Texas Friends and those who once lived in Texas.

~ Monday Musings and an Apology ~

I know I've been MIA...just one of those times in the grief process. So many people say that "time heals" ~ no it doesn't!  I think that time allows for a few more days of smiles and sunshine...perhaps a night that you fall asleep without the tears and wake up with a more positive outlook.  A time of happy memories and laughter or doing something to honor the person you lost.  A day that you want to slap someone when they say, "I figured you're over it by now."  :(   A day when your gratitude list is long and positive and you feel your prayers are heard.

It is a horrible group to be in and you don't wish it on anyone!  Unfortunately, sometimes the other members of the group are the only ones that truly understand. They recognize that your moods can change in an instant and you really, really don't want to be a Debbie Downer.

I just found a group of emails that were in the "Promotions" folder of my gmail account. Many were responses to posts here and I'm so embarrassed that I didn't know and haven't responded to you!  I do apologize ~  I guess I will have to check that folder and SPAM more often...there were a few in the SPAM folder too.

In case you're not aware, I am so over this heat!  Of course you do remember when I complained about the icy cold temps last winter don't you?  :)  My favorite time of year is Fall and then Spring. We get a little breather here and hopefully, turn off the a/c for a few days as well as enjoy being outside!  One of my favorite things to do is to eat outside...or have coffee or a drink in the evenings and just relax. We have such a short window of time to do this so it's important to take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself!

Do you have any recommendations for dry skin? I feel like I've tried most everything. I've always had dry skin, however, the past couple of months it has been horrid! I've used moisturizer, coconut oil, creamy Vaseline, argan oil, Vitamin C & E and really thinking of trying WD-40. :)  The oils are causing break outs so I'm at a loss as to what to try next. Would love for you to share suggestions!

The new HomeGoods and Michael's had their grand openings yesterday. I didn't go ~ I don't enjoy crowds.  The parking lots were full. I have been to the new Kirkland's ~ very nice!  I had a gift card so I used it to buy a new lamp. Will try to get it photographed and share soon!  [ For those that are not aware, these new stores are within walking distance for me. :) ]

~ Georgia Peach Pound Cake ~

Hmmmmmm, delish!  I made this and shared a few years ago so it's a repeat. Since peaches are available now I was reminded of this cake. Anyway, if you like a great Southern dessert ~ and who doesn't? ~ try this with fresh peaches.  I have used frozen as a substitute and it was very tasty.  You could certainly use other fresh fruits.  Don't you know that fresh cherries would be divine? Of course, it is NOT low fat, etc.  Like Paula Deen, you gotta use that butter & sugar!  :-)

I have not adjusted to taking photos while cooking or baking.  :-)  I did think of it as I took the cake from the oven so there are a few pics to share with you. Please, please forgive the lousy photos!  This was posted when I first started this blog and had no idea what I was doing.   Not to say that I do now! ;)

Here's the recipe:
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 cups white sugar ~ I used a scant 2 cups since the frozen peaches were unsweetened. Depending on the sweetness of the fruit, you could prolly use less.
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups fresh peaches, pitted and chopped
1.Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Butter a 10 inch tube pan and coat with white sugar.
I did not use the sugar...sprayed the pan with Baker's Joy ~

2.In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla. Reserve 1/4 cup of flour for later, ~ important! ~ and sift together the remaining flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually stir into the creamed mixture. Use the reserved flour to coat the chopped peaches, then fold the floured peaches into the batter. This helps to prevent all the peaches sinking to the bottom.  Spread evenly into the prepared pan.

3.Bake for 60 to 70 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Allow cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely. 16 servings

And...always add the Love!
