~ Monday Musings ~

I'm still waiting for fall to arrive here!  At least we're in the high 80's today rather than the 90's. I understand next weekend is supposed to be in the 80's also.  If you're having cool air in your area, please send it this way!  :)

Please excuse me while I vent a bit ~ pop-ups on blogs just drive me crazy!  I realize that's not a popular statement to make but the blogs load very slowly, can't see a full photo without taking time to hide the pop-up and on and on. I know each blogger has their reasons but it causes some major frustrations for visitors.  Well, at least for me ~  :/

Another annoyance is a "no reply blogger".  I am so appreciative when someone takes the time to stop by and leave a comment!! I prefer communicating via email and not by leaving a response on the blog. I don't think anyone has time to go back to a blog and search for a response. Sometimes it's difficult to find an email addy 'cause clicking on the person's name leads to a Google +  profile, not the blog. Then one has to search that profile for a blog link.  I'm certainly not a techie person ~ I often wish for that talent and knowledge! ~ but I understand that many of these glitches are caused by Google + .  I have no way of knowing if that's true, nor do I have any idea how to fix it!  Oh well....

Just so you'll know, that's all my vetching for the day!!  I hope you'll read on...

I found this devotional journal this weekend that is on sale ~ $6.79 vs $10. Stormie Omartian is a wonderful Christian author ~ just in case you're not familiar with her. If you click on the book title below the photo it will take you to the website.

If you're not familiar with Alexandra Stoddard, you're missing out!  Take a look ~

A Place to Gather, Sustain & Revive: Our living room fireplace is very important to my husband, Peter, and me. We have a love seat and comfortable upholstered chairs on swivels where we come together, alone or with family and friends. In the winter months, a roaring fire creates a focal point of warmth, energy, and the spirit of the moment. We gather there to sustain ourselves. The purple handwoven throw makes us feel cozy. Here, love is generously shared.

Her notable career as an interior designer began in 1963, when Alexandra Stoddard joined the legendary firm McMillen, Inc., going on to design interiors all over the world. She is sought today as a lecturer, author, and philosopher on the art of living.

I discovered her years ago when I purchased this book:
She's written many more ~ just take your choice!  :)  She reminds me of Sarah ban Breathnach and her book, "Simple Abundance".  If you haven't read it, it's a must too! I can't tell you how many times I've read it through the years. She used to be on Oprah quite often in the early 90's and always promoted Gratitude Journals. I agree! I honestly think that if you take a few minutes daily to write down what you're grateful for, it will change your life!  She suggests starting with just 5 items and that's fine but I promise your list will grow!  :)  When I first started these journals, my mother was seriously ill, my job was extremely stressful and a few other things were going on. I remember the first night I wrote "I made it through the day!"  That was HUGE too.

I recently had my well woman appointment with my Dr.  Most of my numbers via the blood work were not good so some changes have to be made re: diet and exercise. Wanna join me?   My thyroid level was good, however, I'm deficient in Vitamin D. That's happened in the past although it's difficult to grasp due to the hot sun we have here. A friend sent me this article so thought I'd share.

I received my catalogue from King Arthur Flour today and I'm starving!  I'd also love to have so many of the items and go in the kitchen and bake until I couldn't!!  :)  Lots of unusual baking ingredients, pans, and more. You can almost smell the apples and cinnamon just by looking at the photos.  :)

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read and I hope, comment. I certainly won't be offended if you happen to disagree with my "annoyances".  Have a wonder*filled week!

  1. Pat, your post comes at the perfect time for me, as I just did a "pet peeves" post about blogging. There are only a few that I have, and it was good to hear some of my blog friend's pet peeves too. The devotional journal sounds nice, and I like that picture with the tea cup and flowers and all the Autumn colors. So glad we found each other here in blog land.

  2. Hi Pat, I'm glad I'm not the only one with Blogging pet peeves, lol. I'm afraid mine may run a little deeper than your's tho, lol. Anyhoo, if I had some cooler weather that I could share, I certainly would. We are actually getting a light rain as I type, which we desperately needed. As far as the blogs with all of the pop ups and such, yes, they load very slowly, and because of the "irritation" that the pop ups cause, I unfollow and don't go back, and there are some that I really like, but I'm not gonna sit around and wait on them. I hope your week brings you joy and happiness. I am trying to get my fall decorating done. Will show when done.

  3. I agree with you on so many points. I wish bloggers were more in tune with how we need to give and take.

Love Alexandra. I have a few of her books.

Praying all is well with you, Pat.

  6. I have those same pet peeves, too, Pat! I don't go back and check responses, but prefer emailing like you. Those pop ups are annoying!
I will check out those books. Thanks for sharing. As for Vit D, I'm deficient, also, which I can hardly believe since I do outside water aerobics 3-4 days a week. I guess I'd better start taking extra Vit D.

  7. Hi Pat,
Thanks for the link for the journel. I just ordered one. I think with all I have going on this will be something that will benefit me while I go through these changes in our lives. I am right with you on the pet peeves in blogland.
I will not take anything away from those that have to advertise to off set the cost of running their blogs but I hate those pop ups too. Nothing worse than trying to read someone's post and have those pop ups interfer. Plus you are right the down load is slower with all of that going on. I like to respond through email and I even did a post on my blog a short while ago showing how easy it is too change from a no reply blogger to a blogger with return email address. It is an easy change and you are right no one has time to go back and check for a response. I feel bad when I cannot respond or thank someone for visiting my blog and leaving a message but if they are no reply it makes that response almost impossible to do. Have a great rest of the week.

  8. Hi Pat, I understand about the pet peeves in blogland. The pop ups are very annoying even while I "get it" why bloggers have it. In my case about the no-reply, I hate having to keep that in my settings but due to googles glitches, it's the only way my comments will arrive in another's inbox. So I keep it for now. I did a post about this so most of my blog friends understand why I have the setting this way.
I have never been low on Vit D but my son is and has to take mega doses of D. Just make sure you are taking Vit D3 for the best benefit.

Thank you for stopping by and your kind comments. Your visits really bless my day.
Sending hugs for a happy fall and cooler weather for us soon!!

  9. I agree with all your pet peeves! Those pop ups make it very annoying. So, there's a King Arthur catalog? Where have I been? I must order one pronto. :) Everyone I know is low on Vitamin D now. It seems they just upped the daily requirement, so everyone is testing low. Weird. I clicked on your link about it and it's good for so many things. Lots of people I know are now taking 1000 IU a day of Vitamin D3.

  10. I agree with both your pet peeves, Pat. I always think it looks desperate to have the pop ups. People can figure out how to follow you without it. It's not THAT hard lol

I love that picture of the tea, so I'll have to check it out :)

It sounds to me like I need some vitamin D so I'll need to check into that as well. Thank you!

  11. Oh no...I probably have all of these things wrong with my blog because I'm a newbie and so not tech-savvy! Thanks for stopping by, and happy to discover your blog!

It makes my Heart happy to hear from you! Thank you so much for taking the time to say hello. I want to respond to each comment, however, if you are a "no reply blogger" I can't. Would love to have an email address to contact you!
