~ Friday Five ~

It appears that most of the style magazines and online sources are stating that "Plum" is the it color for this fall and winter. Thought I'd share a couple that I saw advertised.  They are beautiful!

Have you ever considered stenciling a texture on your walls?  There was an extremely talented blogger from Lubbock that used to post and she had done a lot of this type decor in her home. I've loved it ever since she shared and I found this resource in case you'd like to check it out.

Do you enjoy baking and decorating Christmas cookies?  Of course, there are always reasons for making cookies!  :)  This is an online tutorial for you. The first lesson is free and then you can decide if you'd like to enroll.

Make classic sugar cookies from scratch with the Wilton method. Not only will Emily show you how to make the dough and cut out shapes, but she also shares expert tips for decorating the cookies with royal icing. This class is perfect for anyone who wants to make professional looking cookies for holidays, Halloween, parties and special events year round.

This last suggestion is just really an fyi for you. Are you aware that tomato juice is good for lowering cholesterol levels and blood pressure? Of course, choose the low sodium variety. It is packed with the antioxidant lycopene and vitamins C, E and K. Another is Pomegranate juice! It may help control hypertension by making blood flow more freely to your ticker. It also fights the harmful effects of free radicals and can lower bad cholesterol. Just look for brands with no added sugar. Try a splash in sparkling water with a squeeze of lime. Of course, you could always add a bit of vodka too!  :)  Actually, beer, coffee, red wine and green smoothies are ok for the heart. Avoid soda, energy drinks and sugary juices.

I had an "event" a couple of weeks ago...short of breath, light headed, nauseous, dizzy, tightness in chest and felt I couldn't get enough oxygen. It lasted awhile and I almost went to the ER. Hate to do that plus it went away finally. I used my inhaler and it probably helped...it was difficult to tell due to so many symptoms. Anyway, I saw my Dr. and he did an EKG. Then he recommended I see the cardiologist again. I had an appointment with him yesterday. He did another EKG and a Echo. I go back on the 2nd for a nuclear stress test. I'm not looking forward to that as I did this a few years ago. It honestly feels like I can't get enough oxygen and feel a tightening in the chest often. Just want answers so your good thoughts and prayers would be very much appreciated!

I'm not sure if you knew Joan Hayes of Chocolate, Chocolate and More ~ sadly, she passed away early yesterday morning in her sleep. She was 49, a single mom with 3 children and an awesome lady! If you don't mind, check her blog often so her kids will benefit from the income and YOU will benefit from her incredible recipes! Just so sad and I know her kids and other family members would appreciate your good thoughts and prayers as they try to adjust to this change in their lives. It's another reminder that we need to be kind and love hard!

Have a wonder*filled weekend!

P.S.  I should add that I have not received any compensation from these resources ~ just sharing. :)

  1. Pat, I love lipstick even in my old age...where we have to watch that it doesn't bleed. So I wear one with a top gloss to seal it. But I love the old lipsticks so much more. Glad you went to the drs. for some info ...that was wise. So sorry to read about the young mother passing away...breaks my heart for her family. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  5. Love all the plum colors! I'm fascinated by cookie decorating lately. I follow "doughmestichousewife" on Instagram and you wouldn't believe her creations with cookies and royal icing! She even made a sewing machine shaped cookie once! I'll check out that tutorial you posted. I love when you give us info like this about the tomato juice, etc. We can all use tips like that. I'm sending prayers and hugs to you with your upcoming test. I'm sure it'll turn out fine, but I know it's not fun to go through stuff like that. xoxo

  6. Well, first off- I am praying for you and for some answers for you-not being able to get a full breath is an awful feeling- one I know from having pneumonia last year. It's awful. And the tightening of the chest must be really scary. Good luck on the tests. I cannot do tomato juice- it plays havoc on my system.

Plum is not a good color on me- I don't look good in it at all, but it is pretty on other people. Those cookies are downright AMAZING!!!!!

I don't know the woman you mentioned but will head over to her blog. That is just awful and sad that she died so young. xo Diana

  10. I love Christmas cookies, and Jess is the baker around the holidays. This color, Plum, is so pretty for Fall, isn't it? I didn't realize how good tomato juice was. I'll be sure to get some the next time I'm at the store, and it's funny cause I really like the taste. I'm so sorry to hear you're going through these health issues. I will definitely say a prayer for you right now. : )

  12. Pat! I am giving you a stern lecture...don't sit around and wait for it to pass! Yikes! So glad you are having the tests run. Are you prone to anxiety attacks at all? Not being able to catch your breath is scary, I know.
I love V8 Spicy...I drink 4 oz. every day with a shot of hemp oil in it. All kinds of benefits!
Keep us posted and take care. xoxo, T.
