~ Silent Sunday with Children in Church ~

Children are so precious, so funny and always very clear with their thoughts and feelings. I thought I'd share these sweet statements with you!

One Sunday in a Midwest City ,
a young child was "acting up" during the morning worship hour.
The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew
but were losing the battle.
Finally, the father picked the little fellow up
and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out.
Just before reaching the safety of the foyer,
the little one called loudly to the congregation,
"Pray for me! Pray for me!"
One particular four-year old prayed,
"And forgive us our trash baskets
as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets."
A little boy was overheard praying:
"Lord, if you can't make me a better boy, don't worry about it.
I'm having a real good time like I am."
A Sunday School teacher asked her little children, as they were on the way to church service,
"And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?"
One bright little girl replied, "Because people are sleeping."
A little boy opened the big and old family Bible with fascination,
looking at the old pages as he turned them.
Then something fell out of the Bible.
He picked it up and looked at it closely.
It was an old leaf from a tree that has been pressed in between the pages.
"Mama, look what I found," the boy called out..
"What have you got there, dear?" his mother asked.
With astonishment in the young boy's voice he answered,
"It's Adam 's suit".
The preacher was wired for sound with a lapel mike,
and as he preached, he moved briskly about the platform,
jerking the mike cord as he went.
Then he moved to one side,
getting wound up in the cord and nearly tripping before jerking it again.
After several circles and jerks,
a little girl in the third pew leaned toward her mother and whispered,
"If he gets loose, will he hurt us?"
Six-year old Angie , and her four-year old brother, Joel , were sitting together in church.
Joel giggled, sang and talked out loud.
Finally, his big sister had had enough.
"You're not supposed to talk out loud in church."
"Why? Who's going to stop me?" Joel asked..
Angie pointed to the back of the church and said,
"See those two men standing by the door?
They're hushers."
My grandson was visiting one day when he asked ,
"Grandma, do you know how you and God are alike?"
I mentally polished my halo, while I asked,
"No, how are we alike?"
"You're both old," he replied.
A ten-year old, under the tutelage of her grandmother,
was becoming quite knowledgeable about the Bible.
Then, one day, she floored her grandmother by asking,
"Which Virgin was the mother of Jesus ? The virgin Mary or the King James Virgin ?"
A Sunday school class was studying the Ten Commandments.
They were ready to discuss the last one.
The teacher asked if anyone could tell her what it was.
Susie raised her hand, stood tall, and quoted,
"Thou shall not take the covers off the neighbor's wife."

~ Texas - Europe Size Comparison ~

People that don't live in Texas don't know how big it is.  :)

- Driving from East to West on I-10 is about 879 miles. This drive, at normal   speeds will take 13 hours and 30 minutes.

- Driving from North to South is about the same mileage and time.

- It covers 268,820 Square Miles

- Dallas to Houston is nearly the same distance as Paris to London

- 7.4 percent of the entire surface area of the United States

- Brewster county in Texas is 6,208 square miles making it larger than the     states of Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island

- DFW (Dallas Ft. Worth) airport is the size of Manhattan

- If Texas were a separate country, it would have the 12th largest GDP in the   world ahead of Mexico, South Korea and Australia

- Texas is almost half the size of the Planet Pluto

- Although six flags have flown over Texas, there have been eight changes of government:
Spanish 1519-1685
French 1685-1690
Spanish 1690-1821
Mexican 1821-1836
Republic of Texas 1836-1845
United States 1845-1861
Confederate States 1861-1865
United States 1865-present

- The state was an independent nation from 1836 to 1845 (Due to this status, we are the only State that can secede from the Union.)

- The state's cattle population is estimated to be near 16 million

~ Sock It To Me Cake ~

Many of you probably remember this cake ~ I don't even remember how old the recipe is. In the past, it's always been printed on the Duncan Hines Cake Mix box but I haven't seen it lately. It's a wonderful coffee cake or serve it with tea anytime. Very easy and delish!

1 box Duncan Hines Butter Recipe Cake Mix
2 T. brown sugar
2  tsp. cinnamon
1  c. finely chopped pecans
4  large eggs
1  c. sour cream
1/3 c. vegetable oil
1/4 c. water
1/4 c. sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Spray a 10 inch tube or Bundt pan with Baker's Joy.

Combine 2 T. cake mix, brown sugar, cinnamon and pecans in a small bowl. Set aside.

Combine remaining cake mix, eggs, sour cream, vegetable oil, water and sugar in a large
mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer at medium speed for 4 minutes, clearing the sides
and bottom of the bowl a couple of times to ensure all ingredients are well mixed.

Pour 2/3 of the batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle with pecan mixture. Spoon the remaining
batter evenly over pecans.

Bake 30 - 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Cool cake on wire rack 25 minutes. Remove cake from pan and cool completely.

I make a glaze with powdered sugar and 1/2 & 1/2 and drizzle over cooled cake.  Enjoy!

As an fyi, the batter settled in a weird way, making the brown sugar mixture form a weird pattern. Didn't affect the taste though!  :)

~ What Is Your Joy IQ? ~

I'm not one to make "resolutions" for a new year ~ besides not keeping them, doing so makes me feel the "shoulds" and rebellious!  The "Resolution Police" have never stopped at my home but I almost feel breathless, expecting someone to reprimand me. Perhaps that's my mother's voice I'm hearing?  Probably so ~

I have selected a word for 2016 ~ I'm choosing "Joy"!  The past 2 1/2 years have been extremely difficult for my family after losing Abby plus other changes. I know my path of grief will never go away completely ~ I don't think it can when you have loved someone so much and miss them terribly!  I also know that Abby lived life full on in her almost 16 years and would want us to do the same.

I found this quiz online and thought I'd share it here:

I took the test and the results indicated I'm a "Joy Magnet" ~ :)  I'm totally glad about that!  Now, my goal is to maintain that or improve immensely.  Would you like to join me?

~ Thursday Thoughts ~

Isn't that the truth?

What would we do without friends in our life?  I consider each of you a friend and so appreciate you!

I don't want to lose any of you either.  Seems that Blogger is making another change to the platform. Basically, you may not be updated  with blog posts in the future.

Would you please consider following by email?
You may have another way that works for you and that's fine...just don't want to lose anyone.

More good news about Brandye!!  She was able to go home yesterday ~ can you believe it?  She will be going to an inpatient rehab facility now...I believe it's from 8:00 - 3:30 p.m. M-F. They will pick her up and take her back home. The other day when my daughter and I visited, she had been walking with the assistance of  _______ not sure of the medical term but it's a type of walker but more sophisticated. God is so good!  Thank you a million times over for all your prayers and good wishes...please keep them coming.

Please continue the prayers for John, our Diana's husband and for Carol as she goes through treatment.

~ * ~

Did you make any resolutions? I don't although I do want to return to healthy eating and exercise.  I've been a lump recently and just ate whatever felt good. That has to change. :)  I think we all have the urge to clean and organize and perhaps work on those projects that have been delayed. Just enjoy your days, do what you can and what makes you happy. Don't place any unrealistic expectations on yourself or your family. Time spent with loved ones is more important than any project!
